Rewind

You know, when Voldemort hit the climbing phase at 14 months or so, I figured that was it. We babyproofed everything, and then it was cool. One climbing phase? Done.

And then the child turned 3 and a half, and realized all of the cool things that were just out of reach. Like candy – drag the kitchen chair, up, open the cabinet, and stuff face. Or bandaids – drop the toilet lid, stand on tiptoes, and plaster bandaids all over legs. We’ve been dealing. Especially with the bandaid cabinet, as we keep meds in there and wow, that’s not a panic attack and a call to poison control waiting to happen.

Tonight took the cake for me, though.

The Dark Lord was put to bed a little early, as he hit meltdown mode like crazy. Earlier he fought a hard battle against naptime, and finally passed out under his mattress after pulling everything (including the mattress) off the bed. He had been in his room with the lights out for almost an hour, when all of a sudden, I hear music.

Yes, there is a cd player in his room, and yes, we turn it on before bed so he can listen to a story or calming music or whatever, but it’s on a high shelf.

Which is why he put his kid-sized chair in the rocking chair and climbed up on both of them in order to change the cd and turn it on.

Tomorrow, I’m chaining all the chairs to the floor.
