A Day in the Life

4:30pm
A teacher sits, neatly dressed, door open, with a welcoming smile for Parent/Teacher conference night.

5:00pm
No parents. She spins in her roll-y chair. Craves brownies.

5:30pm
A PARENT! She leaps up and hurries over, only to discover the parent needs directions to another room. Returns to roll-y chair. Contemplates meaning of universe. Decides to go with 42 for the answer.

5:50pm
A parent looks in the door, asks “Hows he doing?” Accepts “Fine” as an answer and leaves.

6:00pm
A parent who works at the school and who she sees everyday stops in to chat about things he already has asked about four times.

6:10pm
Parent stops in and wants to know why she is failing their angel. Teacher patiently explains that you must be present to win.

6:30pm
Lost comes on in half an hour. She casts longing looks at the tv that she would not be rude enough to turn on, even though no parents are here. Calls home frantically, realizing that husband most likely took the tape out of the VCR. Wishes for Tivo.

6:45pm
Resists reading Lost spoilers on livejournal. Half-hearted attempt to locate desk from under piles of paper.

6:47pm
Shoves papers in drawer. Resolves to not use that drawer for the rest of the year.

7:00pm
Now missing Lost. Also, begins checking head for gray hairs out of boredom.

7:05pm
Wonders how students got that red stuff on the ceiling.

7:07pm
Wonders if she could get a spitball up there too.

7:10pm
Decides not to try.

7:11pm
Checks clock for forth time in 10 seconds. Decides world is spinning slower.

7:15pm
Checks livejournal cautiously. Way too many possible Lost spoilers. Decides to avoid like the plague. Checks watch three more times.

7:20pm
Soul.Slowly.Dying

7:35pm
Parent she sees everyday returns. Asks same three questions again.

7:45pm
Stares at clock.

7:50pm
Gets a brownie.

8:00pm
Blinks. Doublechecks time. Collects stuff, ignores messy desk. Ignores needed errands. Leaves with soul and brain cells much diminished.

Hours: 3.5
Parent count: 3
Brain cells killed: 504
