Indoor Only

Im really struggling right now.

when we left alaska, I made the very difficult decision to let a family who was very eager and, it seemed, loving, adopt my cat, Una. i made the decision because Una needed to be in a one cat household. she needed somewhere that would accept her tendency to hide and be skittish, and most importantly, she needed to not be further traumatized by traveling thousands of miles.

the family approached us. i talked to them, i introduced them to Una, i explained her sensitivity. i took a solid week to think it over and say goodbye and get her settled into a new family.

they nodded and smiled and petted her, and seemed perfectly thrilled to get such a loving cat.

i found out about a month ago that they didnt have her anymore. they didnt like her tendency to hide, so they gave her to someone else.

they gave her to someone who i wouldnt trust to take care of a plant, much less a cat.

i found out today that the new family let her go.

they just…sent her outside. in a village where feral dogs roam, they let my indoor only, very sensitive, very skittish, very confused cat, they LET HER OUT.

i dont even know if she’s being FED, i dont know if she’ll survive the next couple of months, much less the winter, where it routinely gets to 40 below. some of the kids say they’ve seen her haunting our old house, and i hope she is. because i know my neighbor will bring her in if she sees her.

she’s my BABY. i cried for quite a while after giving her away, and i still get sad when i think about giving her away, but THIS. This is like a kick in the gut.

i am devastated. i feel responsible. i feel like we should have made a different choice, should have found a different way to find her a new home. a home where i thought she would be taken care of, and loved, and get plenty of attention.

i feel awful.

Night Night

It cracks me up that i can now say to Voldemort, “time to go night night?” and he’ll say, “night night,” and then take himself down the hallway to his room and stand by his bed. if i dont come in to put him in bed, he’ll come back down the hallway, climb up on my chair, look at me, and say it again.

or, if HE decides it’s time to go to sleep, he’ll just start repeating “night night,” to me or Brandus until we get the message and put him to bed.

i have a kid who WANTS to sleep when he’s tired. Hee!

Fabulous Friday

Isnt it strange how, even if you’re not currently employed, like me, Friday still feels like the most lovely part of the week?

The Dark Lord has achieved a new milestone, of sorts.

He’s trying to give up his naps.

Needless to say, his father and I are fighting him every step of the way on this one. But, he’s pretty much given up his afternoon nap – unless we feel like spending half an hour to an hour one on one rocking and singing and doing shadow puppets, or whatever will make him sleepy that afternoon – and the past couple of days, his former two hour morning nap has been cut down to HALF AN HOUR.

How am I supposed to get anything done in half an hour? I cant even get through yoga in half an hour!

In exchange for this new no napping policy, his understanding has increased by about a thousand.

We were sitting here in my chair a few mornings ago, just finishing the morning nursing session, and I asked, “you ready for breakfast?”

At which point, Voldemort slid off my lap, went to his high chair in the corner of the kitchen and started tugging it to the table. And then tried to climb into it.

I boggled.

In other, non baby related news, So You Think You Can Dance is down to 4 people, and last nights results made me very sad. I wasnt surprised, but I was sad. So, to help make me feel better, here’s my favorite dance from this season:

And, just for contrast, here’s my favorite dance from last season:

Money For Nothing

Just recently, we got dvr. Which is new and exciting for us, because we’ve never had dvr before, and this way I could tape things – like the Emeril Green episode that my sister was on last night – and watch them later.

We had played around with the whole pause/unpause thing while watching shows if the baby cried, but learning how to tape things took a little bit of time.

Brandus (who just had a birthday on Wednesday, HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRANDUS!) was showing me how to find shows, and tell it to record, and then how to find them again so we could play them.

And wouldn’t you know it? Our dvr was obviously recycled from someone else. We had stuff on there already!

And now, when we go scrolling through the things we have recorded, and discuss what to delete to save some room, automatically, we skip right over the porn that came already on it.

We did delete the Rambo movie, though.
