Ninja Beauticians, and the Women Who Love Them

So, anyway, trip to Chicago.

Driving there was wildly entertaining. the first day, i got stuck, in the uhaul, with the roommates crazy mother, ALMOST ALL DAY.

so we would be driving, and i would be reading the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, or making postcards, and she would lean over and OUT OF NOWHERE, ask me if i had kids.

or if my sister had kids.

or if i enjoyed teaching school..which oddly enough, i dont do anymore.

so that was fun.

i did, however, manage to only drive two hours out of the entire trip. i am just that talented.

the apartment is AWESOME, although evil mother from hell managed to make it sound like it was hidious and in the ghetto, which it totally isnt. the lack of hot water, however, was a detractor. *shivers*

we wandered around the neigherhood and parts of chicago, and we went to cool places. Like, the Gay Starbucks. and Gaymart. and the half gay Costco. hey, dont ask me, that is just how they were introduced to me.

we also went to Women and Children First, a really cool feminist bookstore, as well as Alchemy Arts, a metaphysical bookstore, where i got some Ogam sticks from divination. very very cool.

Lets see…stories.

as promised, the Ninjas. which is really not that exciting of a story. so dont blame me if youre disappointed.

We passed a place while driving..somewhere, called “Nina’s Beauty Shop.” now, if you know me, and my sometimes sporadic reading skills, it shouldnt surprise you that i read it as “Ninja’s Beauty Shop.” frankly, this idea has thrilled me to pieces.

no, really. think about it!

You step inside, its pitch black inside.

You wait, and feel something brush your ankle.

After five minutes, you get annoyed and step outside.

You glance in the front window, and double take. Your hair is a different color, your toenails are painted, and you are missing 100 bucks out of your wallet.

but it isnt until you get home, when you discover the bikini wax, that you panic a little.

all hail the ninja beauticians!

Kitty Treats

I did get back, by the way..four days ago, actually. but then i had to go back to work, and then i got sick (i have a cold, and i protest mightily), and now im sitting on my couch in my pajamas wondering if i could call in sick to work today (the answer, for those of you who wonder, is NO. we cant afford it).

we did have alot of fun, and i made postcards, and had so much fun, im making more! hopefully, postcards made it to their intended recepients. Louise, i totally guessed on postage necessary to send something to Canada, so cross your fingers and let me know if/when it made/makes it there.

we rode the L much, and im quite proud of myself for never falling off the platform or having the door shut on me. (you mock, but these are the things i am convinced will happen..JUST BECAUSE).

we ate out ALOT, which makes sense, as the gas at Mel’s place hadnt been turned on, which meant we had no stove.

it also meant we had no hot water, which made taking a shower a highly interesting experience. Its a claw foot tub with a shower head in it, and dear josh, the water was COLD. i swung the shower head as far to the side as i could, and then stuck my head in and tried not to shriek.

it was an experience, to say the least.

but we got Melisa sorta settled, and i havent even told you about the Ninja Beauticians, or about checking with the oracles before being converted, so i will come back later and do that.

Road Trip to Chi-Town

Well, tomorrow morning, me, Melisa, her new roommate, roomate’s mom and sister..and possibly Amy S, but i dont remember, get into the moving truck and head off to Chicago.

Yeehaw.

I have the entire (so far) series of Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, my mp3 player, my gameboy, and a small box of art supplies.

Not the mention clothes, water bottles and Stevie Bear.

However, I wanted to mention the art supplies again..Im not taking much, but the current plan is to make postcards of the trip and mail them. So, drop a comment, or an email, as i can check that from my phone, with your address, should you want one of these random postcards.

no promises as to content or decoration or anything.

Well Fed

Brandus and i had friends over for dinner last night.

this was a whole new experience, as usually, we are entirely too lazy to clean the house to the degree necessary to have people over.

however, brandus had yesterday off.

i walked into my apartment yesterday, and wondered if i was on the wrong floor. the house is SPOTLESS. he cleaned everything, including the kitty tower.

im currently overwhelmingly in love with my husband, as he then went on to COOK.

brandus has chef’d in several resturants, but he rarely cooks in a big way, unless we have company, and then he doesnt cook..he COOKS.

we had:
bruschetta with parm toasties
stuffed artichoke hearts
miztha cheese and brown butter spagetti (like the stuff at the Old Spagetti Factory)
baked peaches in a sweet wine sauce

i love having people over. we always eat so well! last time around, it was brandus’s geek friends, and it was a middle eastern feast!

except the bastards didnt save me any falafel.
