Long Weekend

Sadly, not an actual long weekend, just a weekend that feels abnormally long. This is most likely brandus’ fault, as he made the mistake of being enthusiastic at work about the idea of math camp on Saturdays, so now he teaches math camp on Saturdays, and I try to figure out times that Voldemort is absorbed enough into anything that I can actually shower.

How do stay at home parents and single parents stay clean? I DO NOT UNDERSTAND.

I did finally take a shower. With the door open. And came back to a child standing in a chair and covered in chocolate.

Yep. Definitely my kid.

Rocking Robin

I don’t have a twitter, nor do I want one. But there is something compelling about trying to tell a complete story or hilarious thought in one hundred and forty words (or is it one hundred and forty characters?). Also, sometimes thinking and typing out an entire blog post takes way too much damn time and brains.

Things I would tweet, were I a Twit:

-My child is singing “Bingo,” but the dog’s name is now POOPIE. I hope Old MacDonald is happy.

-Taking baths vexes me. My boobs always end up cold.

-My kid hasn’t worn a shirt for 48 hours. This might be a sign that we need to get out more.

-I like it when my kids at school wear warning labels:”My Parents are Exhausted,” “Here Comes Trouble,” and “Autistic by day, Ninja by night.” Heh.

Death of a Salesman

Brandus’ father died this past weekend, 6 years or so after being diagnosed with stage four prostate cancer.

It’s been a little crazy, and we’ve done a lot of running around. Brandus did the traveling, and told me to stay home with Voldemort. There was no funeral or memorial, so Brandus went out to be with his mom. I ran after the kid and answered the four million phone calls a day from my family and Brandus and people from work.

Brandus is dealing, and we’re still trying to decide how to handle discussing things with the Little Dark Lord. Seeing as Mimi is on her way out on the 19th, we need to figure it out, as he probably will notice that Grandpa isn’t with her. My awesome sister sent us some books for him, but has anyone had to handle anything like this? What did you say?

Binoculars

My folks came up for Thanksgiving this weekend, so we’ve been hanging out and having a good time. We did dinner, and naps (everyone except for the child napped – does that make sense at all?), and Voldemort and his grandparents decorated a gingerbread house, so over all, it’s been a good visit.

Except that my dad has this Thing. See, we have hard water. Therefore, our glasses tend to be a little cloudy. I don’t particularly care, as they aren’t dirty, just cloudy.

It drives my dad nuts.

He has put vinegar in the dishwasher, recommended different detergents, spent time experimenting with pre-washing all of the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher, and has ended up scrubbing most of our glasses by hand.

Now, if I could just get him to do the bathroom, we’d be all set.

How to Blow the Mind of a Three Year Old

In the middle of a meltdown – one concerning getting a “special treat” from school, which he did not get due to living up to his nickname – inform child you have something very special for him. Reach out and catch something out of the air and put it in his hand.

Spend entire ride home with child examining his cupped palm looking for the invisible ladybug.
